I am taking a break from my computer for the next week. The boys and I have a lot we’d like to accomplish this week and I have books to read and studying to do. I am taking a break to get refocused and re-prioritize.
Be back in seven days…..

Be back in seven days…..

We are all so excited as we wait to meet these two precious little girls. Just a few short weeks until Bella arrives and then a few more months until Aliza’s sister will be here.

We had a great weekend:
Friday: Valentine party; date with Cam at Scotty Brown’s and dessert at The Colophon Cafe while the boys went to dinner and Beauty and the Beast (LHS play) with my mom.
Saturday: Breakfast with the boys; Aliza here for a sleepover; awesome service at CTK where over 30 people were baptized!
Sunday: Snuggling (early in the morning) with Aliza; sunshine; dinner with Cory, Terri and Mike.
Monday: Coffee/shopping for Heather’s baby shower with my mom; catching up on laundry; Cam and the boys cleaning the garage and washing my car; snuggling and watching a movie with the boys while Cam is at a CTK council meeting.
So much to be thankful for.
To change things up a bit this morning, the boys and I packed up our work for today and headed out to Woods @ Boulevard. We have enjoyed our morning here as we worked on Spelling, Language, Math, Art and Reading.
Caleb just finished reading Much Ado About Nothing Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas video The Secret film
from the Shakespeare Can Be Fun! series. He really enjoyed the story. That boy is a reading machine these days! I have a few more of that series on order from Launching Success. Sean worked carefully on his Van Gogh art project today. He started taking an art class at BellinghamART each Thursday afternoon and has already learned so much.
Last week the boys started a soccer class at the Sportsplex. They work on drills and scrimmage for an hour once a week. It is just the kind of activity they need to break up the monotony of this dreary winter weather. I love watching them play– although it’s a bit chilly there.
We just finished up our second book club book on Monday. Participating in book club has been so much fun and so educationally enriching. Our last book, The Year of The Boar and Jackie Robinson, was about a Chinese girl who immigrated to America who falls in love with baseball and Jackie Robinson. We studied Chinese customs, made Chinese food and even incorporated a timeline of African Americans who have made a significant mark on History.
The boys are both continuing to enjoy guitar lessons. Each week they continue to improve and develop their skills. Sean takes playing guitar VERY seriously, practicing multiple times daily. Caleb, on the other hand, wants to be a rock star and hopes that magically his skill will match his desire.
After this week there will be 17 weeks of school left– which may sound like a lot but with how quickly each week passes, I know it’s gonna fly by! I am working on a plan that will help us wrap up each of our separate curriculums right around the same time in June. We have a lot to learn between now and then. Our brains are going to have to stretch and work hard over the next few months. I am going to have to finally
learn fractions! And then, before we know it, it will be summer.

“Almost perfect… but not quite.”
Those were the words of Mary Hume
At her seventh birthday party,
Looking ’round the ribboned room.
“This tablecloth is pink not white–
Almost perfect… but not quite.” The Babysitters hd“Almost perfect… but not quite.”
Those were the words of grown-up Mary
Talking about her handsome beau,
The one she wasn’t gonna marry.
“Squeezes me a bit too tight–
Almost perfect… but not quite.”“Almost perfect… but not quite.”
Those were the words of ol’ Miss Hume
Teaching in the seventh grade,
Grading papers in the gloom
Late at night up in her room.
“They never cross their t’s just right–
Almost perfect… but not quite.”Ninety-eight the day she died
Complainin’ ’bout the spotless floor.
People shook their heads and sighed,
“Guess that she’ll like heaven more.”
Up went her soul on feathered wings,
Out the door, up out of sight.
Another voice from heaven came–
“Almost perfect… but not quite.”– Shel Silverstein
Before the boys went to bed tonight we each took turns reading poems from A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends. For some reason this poem just got to me. I felt some conviction about my own dissatisfaction with things that are mostly good—just not quite perfect. I am so thankful that even though I am ungrateful at times and even though I can be critical—when God sees me He won’t say, “Almost perfect…but not quite”. Instead He’ll say “I love you and welcome home”.
